Procedures for making tapioca flour and tapioca starch are different, therefore machines for the two products are different as well. This article will combine tapioca flour and tapioca starch production process to explain to you the difference between two kinds of tapioca processing equipment.
The process for making tapioca flour are cleaning, washing, peeling, cutting and crushing, de-sanding, dewatering, drying and sieving, while the process for making tapioca starch are cleaning, washing, cutting and crushing, fiber separating, de-sanding, starch refining and concentrating, dewatering, drying and sieving.

Tapioca starch processing machines and its flow
The differences between tapioca flour production line and tapioca starch production line.
1.In cleaning section: Tapioca flour production needs machines for cassava roots peeling, while it’s not necessary in tapioca starch production line.
2.In processing section: After cassava crushed into cassava pulp, the following process for making tapioca flour and tapioca starch are different.
In tapioca flour production, cassava pulp is directly pumped into plate and frame filter press machine for dehydration, and then wet cassava cake is crushed and dried in flash dryer.
In tapioca starch production, cassava pulp is firstly pumped into centrifuge sieve machine to remove fibers, and then hydrocyclone station is used to remove protein and fats and the starch slurry is refined and concentrated at the same time. After that, peeler centrifuge machine is applied for starch dewatering, and finally wet starch is dried in flash dryer. Compared with tapioca flour production, tapioca starch have more procedures for separation.
3.In drying section: Both tapioca flour and tapioca starch need flash dryer for final drying, but the requirement for drying are different for these two products. Tapioca starch is easier for drying, one stage drying is enough, while tapioca flour needs two-stage drying, or one stage drying but with more heat source.
To sum up, there is no one production line that can be used to produce both tapioca flour and tapioca starch. If you want to produce these two products, you need to set up two separate production lines.
